WEATHER

The town of Trinidad is home to the highest recorded wave on record. On December 31st, 1913, a wave struck the 175′ high lighthouse on Trinidad Head knocking out the light and climbing 25′ above the lighthouse.

If you are lucky enough to come in the Winter you may get to see some of this amazing power of nature. We have seen 70′ high wave crashes on Helmet Head Rock (almost directly in front of the Chalet and which you can walk out to at a very low tide, 140′ high wave crashes on Whale Head Rock (also almost directly in front of the Chalet) and 150′ high wave crashes on Hershey Kiss Rock (off to the right of the Chalet. See the video on the PHOTO page).

For runners and hikers, Trinidad has the best weather in the country. 90% of the time (over 328 days of the year) our temperature always remains within 11 degrees of a high of 62 degrees and a low of 52 degrees. We have the most consistently cool weather you’ll ever find.

Listed below are the observations taken from The Oceanfront Chalet. These are the temperatures and conditions associated with our own micro-climate. (the weather station is located on the owner’s house, approximately 150′ away from the Chalet).
